Description 

​

GLS, or Global Leaders Summit, is a Model United Nations committee in which delegates represent the ideologies of different leaders and recognised individuals rather than countries. These leaders can come from different historical periods and nationalities. They may have led countries or organisations or have had a significant impact on the way society thinks and acts. The purpose of this committee is to explore a leader's actions, beliefs and principles while taking into account the historical context in which they developed.

This committee allows delegates to debate current world issues while bringing the perspectives and ideas of their assigned leaders to the discussion. Throughout the debate, delegates will explore different approaches to contemporary global issues while also examining the political philosophy and principles of well-known historical leaders. The committee was created at CCBMUN to give older and more experienced delegates the opportunity to participate in a different type of MUN experience.

 

Structure

The committee is made up of different leaders from the past and present who bring their own experiences, beliefs and perspectives into the debates. During GLS, your leader will be aware of all historical events that occurred before and after their lifetime. They will also understand modern technologies, technical terms and current world affairs.

Delegates must consider their leader's experiences, decisions and the important events they lived through when developing their position on each topic. They should use their leader's documented beliefs, principles and personality to analyse current global challenges and propose solutions that are consistent with their perspective.

 

Leaders must maintain the point of view and personality they demonstrated during their lifetime. However, they are able to apply these principles to present-day situations because they understand the modern world. Delegates should therefore consider how their leader's established ideas and values could be applied to the issues being debated today.

 

Special Procedures

The GLS committee functions differently from the other committees in CCBMUN. During GLS, delegates will be able to speak in the first person and use pronouns such as “I”, “me” and “we”. They will also be able to refer directly to other leaders during the debate. Delegates are encouraged to come dressed as their assigned leader and will not be restricted to the formal attire of the model. For example, if a delegate's leader is Cleopatra, they may choose to dress in clothing inspired by ancient Egypt. Nevertheless, all students must respect the dress code of the model while remaining respectful and tolerant of different cultures and traditions. Another important difference between GLS and other committees is the resolution process. At the end of the debate for the first topic, leaders will form blocs based on their positions and work together to develop a guideline document. This document must present a step-by-step plan explaining how the issue should be resolved or managed. n this prescriptive document, leaders must use relevant historical and current quantitative and qualitative data to support their claims and proposals. The document should reflect the perspectives and principles of the leaders within each bloc, while providing practical and clearly justified steps for addressing the issue. 

 

At the end of the debate for the open agenda, leaders will form blocs based on their positions and work together to develop a resolution document. This document must propose concrete measures to address the situation under discussion and should reflect the perspectives and principles of the leaders within each bloc. Leaders must use relevant current and historical quantitative and qualitative data to support their proposals and explain how their suggested measures could address the situation effectively.

 

PORTFOLIO

The first document should contain an opening speech addressing the first topic, following the same format used in the other committees. The second document should be a research document focusing on the first topic and presenting the assigned leader's perspective, relevant arguments and possible solutions. The third document should be a biography of the assigned leader, including a brief description of their childhood and education, the important events that shaped their life and their most recognisable work.

 

Delegates should also research their leader's broader political principles and positions on major global issues to prepare for the open agenda. At the end of the first day of the model, delegates will be given the issue to be discussed in the open agenda. They will then prepare an opening speech for this topic and submit it to the chair before the beginning of the second topic.​​
